Arolik River Preserve, Alaska

Long held in secure stewardship by the Yu'pik elders of the Native Village of Quinhagak, some five miles to the north, the Arolik lays on Alaska's remote western coast. The Arolik River is an intimate lake born stream heading from the Ahklun Mountains and terminating in the Bering Sea. From the foothills at Snow Gulch it is braided on much of its run as it cuts through the tundra while being shrouded by willow, alder and cottonwood shrubs.
The Arolik shares thebest atributes of its big sister river to the north the Kanektok. Crystal clear water, gentle gravel bars for easy wading and more fish than you can shake a stick at. All five species of salmon, grayling, and of course the large Leopard Rainbow.
The river is so clear, the small stone and pebble river bed seems to have almost no water flowing over it. It feel on your boat ride upriver as if you are suspended in flight. The resident species must camouflage themselves against the river bottom to protect themselves from predators. Trying to look like rocks make these rainbows some of the most beautiful Leopards you will ever be lucky enough to experience. The lack of easy hiking places for these finned inhabitant creates unsurpassed sight casting opportunities. The water clarity and the fish population adds to the uniqueness that is the Arolik.
The Arolik is governed by the strictest of angling ethics and is fly fishing, catch and release, barbless hook angling only for all species. Not to mention that there are only 4 rods allowed on the entire river per day.
The Arolik is a portable tent camp offering the finest in amenities. Private hot showers and bathrooms, 2 anglers per hard floored tents furnished with comfortable beds and the finest camp cuisine you will find anywhere in Alaska.
