Jon Gorham
Professional Fly Fishing Guide

Hunting, fishing and sports were common activities enjoyed by my family, but fishing has gotten into my blood over the years. It started as a child on fishing trips with my Dad. It really caught my attention in high school when a buddy and I would take my tent and gear to Chesnut Lake, spending the night, catching the big ones.
My first trip with a guide was on the Frying Pan River in Colorado. I knew I was in my element when I first saw that river, I was mesmerized by it. That day turned out to be one of my favorite trips of all time, even if my friend fell in and drifted down river about fifty yards, maybe that was part of it.
Either way, after that day it was decided, I was determined to pursue fishing to the best of my abilities. The pursuit, the action and the enigma that is fly fishing, it was the life I wanted more of.
I spent fourteen years in Miami, Florida which allowed me to experience a new kind of fishing -- saltwater. What an experience to hook a hundred pound tarpon, or a strong-lipped snook. Even hooking a four-pound peacock bass in the canals was exhilarating. The fishing in South Florida is endless and abundant. Sharing time between working for entertainment stars, scoring goals in overtime to win championships in lacrosse, stalking a quiet flat for tailing bonefish, and yes, dancing in the clubs. Miami was good to me but I knew I had to leave.
In Miami I remember telling people I was going to be a fly fishing guide in Alaska. "What? Where's that?" These were the questions from most of my friends and that was about right -- it seemed so far away and the adventure I experienced for five seasons was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. A bush plane was the vehicle that I took to my office. My office? It was sweet! It had everything: Rivers; mountains; oceans and wildlife. I was lucky to be there. I was lucky to be guiding in Alaska. My favorite has to be walking and fishing with the Grizzlies on the Moraine… and catching big rainbow trout.
Seattle, Washington is my home now. The Northwest was a place I wanted to live ever since I was young. When I was young I heard of this fish called a Steelhead...just the name was so cool. A fish that lives in the ocean then comes into rivers to spawn. Well years later, I am standing in an iconic river like the Sol Duc swinging big flies for steelhead. Casting a two-handed rod and catching a willing steelhead has taken my fly-fishing to a new level.
I enjoy guiding people to their first fish, opening new doors for them so they too can be swept up in the excitement and be lured away to water whether in their backyard or thousands of miles away.

"As for our trip with Jon we had a great time. Hooked several fish just hadn't quite got good enough to land them. Need more practice right?? Jon was truly a pleasure to have as our guide from being prompt on arrival to his over the top riverside meal. He was well prepared in having everything we need and he needed to make the day go really smooth. Oh and before I forget thank you for the wine as we really enjoyed it that evening upon our return, loved your label. Thanks again for a great memory!"
