Professional Guide

Outdoor adventures are in my blood!  I was born in Salem, Oregon into a family of outdoorsmen.  My grandfather, who worked for the Oregon State Forestry Department and my father, who was an avid outdoor adventurist, were both instrumental in the development of who I am today. I enjoyed countless days drifting and fishing for trout, steelhead and sturgeon on their favorite rivers.

I grew up fishing spinning gear with great success but, as I grew older, I felt something was missing. I needed a new challenge! Coincidently, my father gave me a fly rod and reel package. Like most beginners, I was overwhelmed with this new style of fishing.  After spending my first year fumbling around, I had an opportunity to spend three days on the river with a very experienced guide – I took it! That particular trip gave me a whole new perspective on fishing as well as a new found respect for the value of a guide.

Sixteen years later, my passion for fishing (or obsession, as some refer to it!) can be summed up this way: I receive profound pleasure from teaching someone the fine art of fly fishing and spending time on the water with new and old friends.  It’s the satisfaction you get from presenting a perfect cast; or that perfect swing in the perfect run while skating an October caddis; or seeing the smile on someone’s face when everything comes together and they land their first fish.   You see, it might sound like an obsession to some but to me, it’s more of a lifelong challenge.

I’ve spent the last 38-years of my life chasing fish on numerous Pacific Northwest rivers.  My goal as your guide is to ensure you have a fun and memorable time! Being extremely patient by nature, I am well versed in beginning to advanced levels of fishing, and will easily adapt our trip to your desired level of instruction.  I look forward to spending time with you on your next outdoor adventure!
