The Grande Ronde is a small jewel of a river sequestered away in a remote corner of northeastern Oregon. Grande Ronde River steelhead are a later arriving summer fish who enter the system when the water cools in the late fall. Here you can taste the rare privilege of having summer steelhead rip a dry fly from the surface film in an eruption that leaves a hole the size of your kitchen sink. A return to swinging wet flies can be especially difficult after this unique encounter.
A four or five day float trip from Minam to Troy puts you in touch with stark canyon walls, native wildlife, whitewater runs and the joyous experience of exposure to this river’s special breed of steelhead.
Inaccessible by road, the canyon area of the Grande Ronde is left to your leisurely paced exploration of the river, its surroundings and fish. In addition to steelhead, rainbow trout and small mouth bass inhabit the river.
Occasionally treating oneself to the joys of multiple day drift boat fishing is a necessity for one’s own mental health. Make a monumental difference in your outlook on life.
