This trip offers you the chance to fish one of the worlds most special rivers for the mighty Golden Mahseer. During these 7 days, you will travel deep inside the Corbett National Park where you will get a special look at some of the best Tiger and Mahseer country in one of the wildest places on Earth.

On this expedition, you are intoduced to some very special places the guides have found for angling around Corbett National Park. They have studied and fished this section of water for many years now, and have selected a group of water to suit every anglers level of fishing experience.

On this trip you will be taken to places where Mahseer still thrive in massive numbers due to the successfull conservation programs being undertaken by the Forestry Commision in this particular state.

The Ramganga River that runs through Corbett Park is one of great beauty. As the crystal clear waters snake their way through steep sided valleys surrounded by thick forest, and dense jungle. The river also holds many other features for the angler to try, from white water rapids to deep green holes to wildlife viewing and lovely shallow sections from where fly anglers can spot a specific fish in the clear water and present a fly to it.

Mahseer are a cold water fish. Mahseer’s habitat has high oxygenated water with rocky bed. Once found from Afganistan to south east Asia “The Mahseer” (Barbus tor putitora) is the most spectacular fish present in many of the rivers originating from the Himalaya’s. Now this fish is found in the Indian Himalayas and in some places in Nepal. Mahseer are a migrating fish, during the winter, fish move to the warm water. As this fish has great smelling sense, it can detect food from quite a distance. Its diet mainly includes other fish & aquatic arthropods.

There habitat has high currents is fast flowing making this fish an ultimate swimmer. The Mahseer travels upsteam & can go through rapids of 20-25 knots. Not much is known about the life span of this fish but experts guess that they live to an age of 20-25 years, the largest speciman ever caught was 121 lbs.

Angling period for Mahseer can be well splited in two parts: Spring (pre Monsoon) and Autumn (post Monsoon). Pre & post monsoon periods provide clear water and fishable levels making the fly fishing quite good during these times. Fishing is stictly prohibited during monsoon as it is the breeding period for the fish.

In India accommodation standards vary from destination to destination. There is availibity of fishing river lodges, jungle camps and hotels. However, if one opts for fishing expeditions in remote regions, then accommodation facilities are as basic as it can be. But with our supporting staff we can organize different standards of camping arrangements from basic river expedition based on normal 2-3 person tents to luxury camping trips based on bigger & spacious tents with chemical toilets. This option depends on the tour chosen and is not available for the deep jungle expeditions and prices will vary.

You can fish, swim in the river, or just sit and watch the mass of stunning wildlife and breathtaking scenery that surrounds you in the park. The wilderness & healthy flora & fauna makes Corbett National park an ideal destination for your trip. Truly one of the most unique fly angling experiences available.
