Puget Sound, this one is for you! Fry are here, not necessarily in an abundance you could walk on water on their backs but they are around and when in proximity to fish, they are eating them...go figure!
At moment they are about an inch to inch and a half long so flies of similar size are going to be best bet for subsurface and we have some unique patterns to EWA by Zach Moore so come check them out.
As spring does work its way into our lives, paying attention to the tides once again becomes quite important as does the light. Early morning, outgoing (for Dave) or late afternoon/evening and incoming (for Mitch) have proven to be worthwhile, most of the time this past week.
If using an intermediate line, you really do need a stripping basket, not really any good way around it. Floating lines not so much for the moment but the time will come when they are prudent for them as well such as when the kelp begins to build up in the water.
With the stripping basket, please take note of how it may alter your retrieve. Wearing it waist height and in front will often times shorten your strip and hence change your presentation. Instead, wear is down lower and on your side so longer, smoother strips can be employed.
As always, questions, please ask. We are here to help you find success and no question is dumb except the one not asked.
Don't forget to bring your fun with you either, it is why we do this, to have fun.
